We’re so glad you’re here!
Sail Kids For Free (SKFF) is a week-long beginner sailing program designed to introduce kids ages 8–14 to the fundamentals of sailing—all at no cost to their families.
Throughout the week, young sailors get hands-on experience aboard Optimist Prams, learning how to rig their boats, handle lines, dock, trim sails, and maneuver independently around the harbor. They’ll also practice essential safety skills, including how to safely capsize and right their boats with confidence.
But SKFF is about much more than learning how to sail.
Each summer, we love watching our sailors grow—not just in their sailing skills, but in their confidence, independence, teamwork, and willingness to try something new. There are windy days, capsizes, knots that refuse to cooperate, and plenty of moments when things don’t quite go according to plan. And then there are those wonderful moments when a child suddenly figures something out, sails independently, helps a teammate, or comes back to the dock beaming with pride.
Those are the moments that make SKFF so special.
The week culminates in an exciting SKFF regatta, where sailors have the chance to put their new skills to work in a friendly sail around the harbor. It’s a fun way to celebrate everything they’ve learned—and for many kids, it’s the beginning of a lifelong love of being on the water.
Registration for the upcoming SKFF season will open on April 1.
